Lead Work
IMPORTANCE OF LEADWORK IN ROOFING
Lead is commonly used as a roofing material because it is strong and flexible. It is often utilized in the form of lead soakers and flashings, which effectively prevent water from seeping through any opening on your roof like a chimney stack or roof windows. Your roof is exposed to harsh weather conditions, and without proper leadwork, it can sustain water damage that could cause more serious problems and expensive repairs. Thus, leadwork is a crucial aspect of roofing that ensures your home is protected from water penetration and its potential consequences.
PROFILED TILES
Traditionally, profiled tiles undergo a soaking and flashing process in either a one-piece or longer length of roughly 1.2 meters by using a folded 300mm lead measuring 150mm x 150mm. The lead is temporarily positioned and marked onto the mortar joints of the brickwork. After marking, the lead is cut, folded, and inserted into the mortar joint. Once in place, it’s secured and then formed around the profiled tiles and tile head lap through lead dressing.
